Description
The construction of laminate waterproof flooring typically involves four layers. The topmost layer, or wear layer, is a transparent layer that resists scratches and wear. Beneath it is the design layer, a photographic image of wood, stone, or other materials that gives the laminate its aesthetic appeal. The third layer, or core layer, is made from high-density fiberboard (HDF) enhanced with a water-resistant material, usually melamine resin, which lends the laminate water-resistant properties. Finally, the bottom layer, or the backing layer, provides stability and additional protection against moisture.
